Most anticipated December 2026 books

There's always something a little bittersweet about December. The year is winding down, reading challenges are almost complete, and I'm already looking ahead to all the books coming in 2027. But before we get there, there are still a handful of exciting new novels worth making time for.

This month's fiction releases may be fewer in number, but they span everything from epic fantasy and heartfelt contemporary fiction to clever romance and gripping mysteries. If you're hoping to end the year with a memorable read, December still has plenty to offer.

I'm especially excited for Chosen Son by Adrienne Young. I can't wait to return to the world of the Fallen City duology, and that gorgeous sprayed-edge edition certainly doesn't hurt. I'm also eager to pick up Just in Time by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka—time-travel romances always get my attention, and this one sounds like a lot of fun.

On the literary side, Lina & June looks like an emotional story about friendship and second chances, while Cry of the Rain Crow promises a compelling mystery set on Saliquaw Nation that immediately caught my eye.
