May is bringing some exciting new fiction, and there are already several books I’m looking forward to reading! This month has a little of everything, from swoony summer romances to speculative fantasy and character-driven stories about friendship, family, and second chances.
Kristin Hannah returns with The Fire, an emotional novel about a woman pushed to her breaking point who sets out on a journey to reconnect with her estranged daughter. Romance readers have plenty to look forward to, too. Bal Khabra’s Last Call brings a veterinary student back to her hometown and into the orbit of her first love, while Carley Fortune’s Only in Summer promises a complicated summer romance on the shores of Barry’s Bay. I’m also curious about Katherine Center’s The Lovebirds, a rom-com involving secret letters, mistaken identities, and a penguinologist working in Antarctica.
Fantasy fans can look forward to Veronica Roth’s Curse the Left Hand, which continues her romantic dystopian fantasy series. Lucy Gilmore’s The Book of Forgotten Things brings five former classmates together through a mysterious connection to the classic novels they received from the man who once saved their lives. And Annabel Monaghan’s August After All offers a second-chance romance about first love, old feelings, and a summer in Montauk.
These are the May 2027 fiction releases I’m most excited about. Whether you’re looking for a new romance, a thought-provoking novel, or a fantasy adventure, I hope you find something to add to your reading list. Happy reading!
