This one is for readers who love a literary introspective story!

More Than Enough follows Polly, a high school teacher whose life is built around her longtime book club friends (who don’t ready books 😜) and her veterinarian husband. When she receives an ancestry test kit as a playful surprise, it leads to a match she didn’t expect, which makes her rethink here family history and the people around her.

This was my first time reading Anne Quindlen and I liked her distinctive writing style. This story has a very stream-of-consciousness feel to it. The narrator gets distracted, loops back, follows tangents, explores flashback… but somehow, it’s easy to follow. The book feels like listening to someone thinking out loud... in a good way! This narration approach does make the pacing of the story slower, however, but I think Quindlen did this very much on purpose.

Despite the introspective approach, the many characters in this story really stand out. I especially enjoyed Polly’s connection to her book club friends. Their shared history and friendships give the story a lot of emotional depth.

The story delves into heavy subjects such as family, friendship, infertility, health decline and identity. You’ll need to be ready to sit with these moments and consider what they reveal about the characters.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for granting me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
