This book caught my eye, and I’m so glad it did because I quickly fell in love with Serenity! Her anxiety, insecurities, and need for a predictable life made me want to give her a big hug and root for her from the very beginning.

The story follows Serenity as she tries to rebuild her life after losing her parents and ending her engagement. When she discovers a box of discarded love letters, she becomes captivated by the mysterious man behind them and sets off in search of him. What follows is a journey of starting over, chasing hope, and learning to see what’s right in front of you.

I loved the first-person narration, especially how each chapter opens with her logging how she is feeling (and estimating her chances of surviving the day). It’s such a clever, personal touch that gives us a glimpse into how her mind works.

The small-town setting was another highlight for me, with its lovable characters and sense of community. I especially adored young Raf and Jake, who bring warmth and personality to the story. Their interactions with Serenity add some lovely moments that made me smile and helped make this little corner of the world feel like somewhere I’d want to visit.

Love and Other Incurable Ailments is a heartwarming story about finding your footing again and making room for the unexpected.
