Why Canadian fiction is having another great year

One of my favourite things about Canadian fiction is that it never fits neatly into one box. In the same year, we can get a literary novel from Emily St. John Mandel, a gripping domestic thriller from Shari Lapena, and a charming fantasy set in Montreal from Heather Fawcett. We also have not one but two new books from Louise Penny, including the latest Three Pines mystery and a new collaboration with Mellissa Fung. Add in a new summer romance from Carley Fortune and Yann Martel's ambitious retelling of the Trojan War, and there's truly something for every kind of reader this year.

The books already earning a spot on my TBR

Below, I’ve compiled my list of new and upcoming books by Canadian authors that I'm most excited to read in 2026. And because publishers keep announcing books throughout the year (and I keep discovering new ones), I update this page regularly with new releases and recent additions.

By no means is this every noteworthy Canadian book publishing in 2026, but it's a great place to start if you're looking to discover new Canadian authors or keep up with your favourites. Happy reading!
