There are so many exciting new voices arriving in fiction in 2026, and I love finding an author at the very beginning of their career. These debut novels caught my attention for their distinctive stories, intriguing characters, and can't-look-away hooks.
There’s a lot of variety here, from the wildly imaginative premise of Sublimation, where crossing a border creates a second version of yourself, to The Death Row Club, where the children of serial killers discover that someone is continuing their parents’ legacy. Yesteryear has also been hard to ignore, with Caro Claire Burke’s debut following an influencer who wakes up in 1805 and suddenly has to survive the pioneer life she never expected to experience firsthand.
I’ve rounded up 30 debut novels to discover in 2026, including books I’ve already read and loved like The Lost Book of Elizabeth Barton and Lady Tremaine, and some that are sitting on my TBR and that I am looking forward to delving into. There are thrillers, romances, historical fiction, fantasy, speculative fiction, and character-driven stories here, but what they all have in common is a premise that made me want to pick up the book and find out what happens.

Why I love discovering debut fiction
I love the uncertainty that comes with picking up a debut. I don’t know the author yet, I don’t have a backlist to browse, and I have no idea whether I’ll want to read everything they write after this. But when a new voice really connects with me, there’s something special about knowing I discovered that author right at the start.
I hope this list helps you find your next favourite author!
